"The fundamental function of art used to be religious, uplifting the mind to the spiritual. Icon paintings in places of worship were a way of connecting the divine and the material world, conveying the powerful presence of the unseen. Nowadays, art does not have the same purpose. However, it still occupies a similar place in our hearts.
Gazeeva’s works often depict distorted human bodies with mutilated or exaggerated body parts. Through her art she attempts to confront the inner, unconscious, spiritual part of herself that is hard to articulate through words or even access with conscious thought. Thus, the paintings become icons for something unexplainable. She works intuitively, seeing where the work takes her as she sits back and follows."
