The Glow Up
In ihrer Arbeit untersucht die bildende Künstlerin Carla Schliephack den Einfluss idealisierter, kommerzialisierter Bildwelten auf die Konstruktion von Selbstwahrnehmung, Identität und Weiblichkeit. The Glow Up eröffnet einen Raum, der die Wechselwirkungen zwischen innerer und äußerer Landschaft sowie deren visuelle und symbolische Ein- und Ausschreibungen reflektiert. Dabei werden, entlang der Erwartungen digitaler Plattformen der Gegenwart und im Rückblick auf kunsthistorische Ideale, Logiken permanenter Selbstoptimierung – wow your friends with every selfie – hinterfragt.

Über die Künstlerin:
Carla Schliephack (@carla_schlie) lebt und arbeitet als bildende Künstlerin in Berlin. Nach ihrem Bachelor in Modedesign an der Kunsthochschule Weißensee graduierte sie 2020 mit einem Diplom in Bildhauerei in der Freien Kunst. In ihrer zeichnerischen und multimedialen Praxis untersucht sie Gestaltungsprozesse als partizipative Werkzeuge der Selbstbildung und Wahrnehmungsschulung. Dabei erforscht sie die ästhetischen Schnittstellen zwischen Kunstwelt und Popkultur sowie zwischen Mensch und Umwelt. Entlang Window Color, Büromaterial, Graffiti oder Instagram benutzt sie das Medium Zeichnung als ästhetisches Werkzeug der Selbstbildung. Referenzen werden dabei zu Landkarten der Wahrnehmung, die sich zwischen Körper und Bild, Kitsch und Konzept, Wirklichkeit und Traum entlang bewegen.
The Glow Up
In her work, visual artist Carla Schliephack examines the influence of idealized, commercialized visual worlds on the construction of self-perception, identity, and femininity. The Glow Up opens up a space that reflects the interplay between inner and outer landscapes, as well as their visual and symbolic inclusions and invitations. In doing so, the logic of permanent self-optimization—wow your friends with every selfie—is questioned, based on the expectations of contemporary digital platforms and with a retrospective on art historical ideals.

About the artist:
Carla Schliephack (@carla_schlie) lives and works as a visual artist in Berlin. After completing her bachelor's degree in fashion design at the Weißensee Academy of Art, she graduated in 2020 with a diploma in sculpture in the Fine Arts program. In her drawing and multimedia practice, she examines design processes as participatory tools for self-education and perceptual training. In doing so, she explores the aesthetic interfaces between the art world and pop culture, as well as between humans and the environment. Drawing on window color, office supplies, graffiti, and Instagram, she uses the medium of drawing as an aesthetic tool for self-education. References become maps of perception, navigating the boundaries between body and image, kitsch and concept, reality and dream.
