Month's Mind

Month’s Mind

“A whistling woman and a crowing hen are neither fit for God nor men.”

CRÓ's Month's Mind is a reflection and development on the themes explored during their year-long project Birds as Omen: A Coo in Two (2) Acts, which was part of Zeitgeist Irland 24.

From pageant queens to Banshee screams, the female voice is prominent in CRÓ's work. In this exhibition, the voice, its vessel and the domestic all walk into a bar. The bar is ReTramp Gallery. You are invited to come and wait for the punchline.

CRÓ is an art collective of Irish artists Hannah Francesca and Lauren Wilson. “Cró” in Gaelic means a hole or enclosure, but colloquially signifies a safe, familiar gathering place. Their practice explores identity, cultural roles, and the overlap of digital and physical realms. Responding to their surroundings, CRÓ highlight oddities with humour, interpreting ‘absurdist art’ to draw attention to the strangeness of current existence, especially as women. In a rapidly advancing digital world, they question whether technology unites or distances us from our cultural roots.

CRÓ ponder if younger generations have always felt such a significant gap from older generations in terms of humour, media, and social norms. Working as a collective aligns with the fast pace of today’s art world. Their practice often involves hosting as performance art, intertwining the domestic with the performative to create immersive art occasions, where every element, from food to costumes, is part of the performance.
