Die Ausstellung „Motherhood II/ Shifting Realities“, stellt die zweite Ausstellung aus einer Ausstellungsreihe rund um das Thema Mutterschaft und Frau - Sein dar. Ziel der Ausstellung ist es, Mythen um männliche und weibliche Zuschreibungen zu hinterfragen und zu dekonstruieren.

Organisiert und kuratiert wird das Projekt von der IntAkt – Internationale Aktionsgemeinschaft bildender Künstlerinnen, Wien – in Zusammenarbeit mit dem HilbertRaum, sowie der Retramp Gallery, zwei Projekträumen für zeitgenössische Kunst in Berlin Neukölln. Hannah van Ginkel kuratierte als Mitglied des HilbertRaum 2023 bereits „Motherhood I / Concepts of Motherhood“, die aktuelle Ausstellung stellt eine unerlässliche Erweiterung dar.

In „Motherhood II / Shifting Realities“ sind generationsübergreifende und historische Themen rund um Mutterschaft in den Fokus gerückt. Des Weiteren werden gesellschaftlich höchst relevante Perspektiven wie queer feministische und sozialpolitische Positionen gezeigt, um damit einen stärker intersektionalen Blick auf das Thema zu lenken. Die Ausstellung weist zusätzlich auf gesellschaftliche Strukturen hin, die es Künstler*innen – Müttern wie Nicht-Müttern – erschwert, sich am Kunstmarkt einen Namen zu machen.

Zur Vernissage am Freitag, den 26.01.2024 findet die Lesung „Mutter kocht Suppe“ von Lena Kothgasser-Haider um 19:00 Uhr in der Retramp Gallery statt. Eine Künstlerinnenführung gibt es am Samstag, 28.01.2024 von 15:00 – 17:00 Uhr Treffpunkt ist im Hilbertraum. Zur Finissage am Sonntag, den 04.02.2024 von 14:00 – 19:00 Uhr zeigt von Tanja Ritterbex um 17:00 Uhr im HilbertRaum die Performance „How I Apply My Products“.

Das Motherhood Team wird parallel zur Ausstellung in Kooperation mit „Procreate Project“(London) Arbeiten von internationalen

Künstlerinnen im öffentlichen Raum auf Plakatwänden zeigen. Diese werden in der vom HilbertRaum und der Retramp Gallery benachbarten Manitiusstraße und Fuldastraße in Berlin, Neukölln zu sehen sein (Manitiusstraße 13 und Fuldastraße 53, 12047 Neukölln, Berlin). Am Samstag, den 10.12.2024 um 12:00 Uhr findet eine internationale Online-Konferenz der IntAkt mit verschiedenen anderen Netzwerken zum Thema Mutterschaft statt. Teilnehmende sind unter anderem Dyana Gravina von „Procreate Project“ (London), Marcia Breuer Gründerin von „Mehr Mütter für die Kunst“ (Hamburg), Ruchika Wason Singh(Indien) von A.M.M.A.A. (the first platform to focus on mother artists in Asia) Len-Len und Illyang Montenegro von the O Home (Philippinen), Ines Doleschal und Rachel Kohn von „Fair Share“ (Berlin), sowie die internationale Performance Plattform S MOM. Ziel ist eine zukünftige Zusammenarbeit und die Sichtbarmachung von Künstlerinnen sowie und eine internationale Förderung des Informationsfluss zum Thema Mutterschaft in der zeitgenössischen Kunst.

The exhibition "Motherhood II / Shifting Realities" is the second in a series of exhibitions about motherhood and being a woman. The aim of the exhibition is to question and deconstruct myths surrounding male and female attributions. The project is organized and curated by IntAkt - Internationale Aktionsgemeinschaft bildender Künstlerinnen, Vienna - in collaboration with HilbertRaum and Retramp Gallery, two project spaces for contemporary art in Berlin Neukölln. As a member of HilbertRaum, Hannah van Ginkel already curated "Motherhood I / Concepts of Motherhood" in 2023 and the current exhibition is an essential extension.

In "Motherhood II / Shifting Realities", the focus is on intergenerational and historical themes relating to motherhood. Furthermore, socially highly relevant perspectives such as queer feminist and socio-political positions are shown to direct a more intersectional view of the topic. The exhibition also draws attention to social structures that make it difficult for artists - both mothers and non-mothers - to make a name for themselves on the art market.

The vernissage on Friday, 26.01.2024 will be accompanied by the reading "Mutter kocht Suppe" by Lena Kothgasser-Haider at 19:00 in the Retramp Gallery. There will be an artist tour on Saturday, 28.01.2024 from 15:00 - 17:00 Meeting point is in the Hilbertraum. For the finissage on Sunday, 04.02.2024 from 14:00 - 19:00, Tanja Ritterbex will show the performance "How I Apply My Products" at 17:00 in the HilbertRaum.

Parallel to the exhibition, the Motherhood Team will be showing works by international female artists in public spaces on billboards in cooperation with "Procreate Project". Procreate Project is a growing archive of international artists who are mothers/parents. The posters will be shown as a large poster twice in the city, the locations are Manitiusstraße and Fuldastraße (Manitiusstraße 13 and Fuldastraße 53, 12047 Neukölln.

On Saturday, December 10, 2024, at 12:00 noon, an international online conference of IntAkt will take place with various other networks on the topic of motherhood. The aim is future collaboration and the visualization and promotion of the flow of information on the topic of motherhood in contemporary art.
