Oliver Basch is a Camberwell University (London) graduate from Berlin. His work focuses on objects and scenarios created by a culture, both fragmented and as a whole. While retaining a deeply personal touch, his photographs span the line between fatalism and melancholy; eliciting not just a single emotion, but rather a series of reactions from the viewer. Kyra LaMariana takes photos in both urban and rural surroundings around the world. Her unique view captures moments that are familiar in their nature, and have a profound element of voyeurism even in the most public of spaces. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and lives in Berlin.

Together, their work evokes a romanticism that is lost in much of contemporary photography. The pieces shown at "Step Backward" were additionally curated with the intention of having the viewer relish in the multitude of possibilities cameras and photography have to offer - without having to depend on digital enhancement or manipulation.
