‘Berliner Nachtleben’ is an ode to a city and its nightlife. Because, perhaps more so than for any other city, the Berlin night is the city’s life, the darkness both of its history and of itsn techno halls where bodies move in ecstatic anonymity, while intrigues of romance, art and politics go on in the shadows of its candlelit bars. It’s a nightlife that can happen in daylight; it can happen in the street or in the club; its music is not just techno but also jazz, blues, rock, and folk. This series of figurative acrylics aims to capture the people and places of Berlin after dark, with expressive portraits of musicians, clubgoers and bar patrons offering an unfiltered glimpse into the life of this strange, unique, sometimes ugly, but always transfixing night.
