Gruppenausstellung mit Original-Papierarbeiten von 15 Künstler*innen aus Berlin und Ausland:
Mit BASE23, Xavi Ceerre, CREAM, DAFNE Tree, ELIOTE, GATE, Vincent Grunwald, Howtokillagraffiti, Erosie Jeroen, Kadir Amigo Memis, Mr. Funky Chicken, Johannes Mundinger, Remi Rough, Blazej Rusin und ZASD.

Die Zeichnung ist das Fundament jeder bildenden Kunstform. Sie lügt nicht – sie ist unmittelbare Information über den Schaffenden. Bildhauer nutzen sie, um Gedanken für Formen festzuhalten: Linien, die Volumen andeuten. Filmemacher entwickeln Storyboards: Linien, die Bewegung und Narration tragen. Maler greifen zu Schraffur und Kontur, um Licht und Schatten direkt aufs Papier zu werfen. Unterwegs, in den Bergen, in der Kneipe – immer verfügbar.
Zeichnung kann das Einfrieren einer Idee oder Empfindung sein, die später in ein anderes Medium übertragen wird, wenn Zeit und Material es erlauben. Sie kann aber ebenso das Hauptwerk sein – ein Original auf Papier.
Papier besitzt dabei eine eigene Sprache. Es reagiert auf Druck, Geschwindigkeit und Intensität der Hand und macht die Spur des Künstlers dauerhaft sichtbar. Seine Oberfläche und Struktur verleihen jeder Arbeit eine besondere Nähe, oft intimer und direkter als Malerei auf Leinwand. Nicht zufällig entstanden in der Kunstgeschichte ganze Sammlungen von Zeichnungen und Papierarbeiten – vom Renaissance-Atelier über die Privatsammlungen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu den Museen der Moderne. Heute steht Papier nicht mehr im Schatten anderer Medien, sondern ist als eigenständiger Bildträger anerkannt.
Ob skizzenhaft oder konstruiert, darstellend oder abstrakt, politisch oder erotisch: In ihrer Einfachheit eröffnet die Arbeit auf Papier ein eigenes Universum. Von dieser Vielseitigkeit ausgehend zeigt die Ausstellung PAPERY II zum zweiten Mal einen Ausschnitt davon und gibt Einblick in die unterschiedlichen Bildsprachen von fünfzehn Künstler*innen. Gemeinsam ist ihnen nicht nur das Arbeiten auf Papier, sondern auch der Ursprung im Graffiti Writing, in der Kalligrafie oder der Wandmalerei. Graffiti kreuzte ihre Biografien, prägte Stil und Leben.
Die RETRAMP Gallery präsentiert in der Gruppenausstellung PAPERY II Originale auf Papier, geschaffen in den letzten Jahren mit Kohle, Marker, Bleistift, Tinte, Ölkreide, Fineliner-Stift, Aquarell, Gouache, Acryl, Sprühlack, Ölfarbe oder in Mischtechniken.

Drawing is the foundation of every visual art form. It does not lie – it provides immediate information about the creator. Sculptors use it to capture thoughts for forms: lines that suggest volume. Filmmakers develop storyboards: lines that convey movement and narration. Painters use hatching and contouring to cast light and shadow directly onto paper. On the road, in the mountains, in the pub – always available.
Drawing can be the freezing of an idea or a sensation that is later transferred to another medium when time and materials allow. But it can also be the main work – an original work on paper.
Paper has its own language. It reacts to pressure, speed and intensity of the hand, making the artist's mark permanently visible. Its surface and structure lend each work a special intimacy, often more intimate and direct than painting on canvas. It is no coincidence that entire collections of drawings and works on paper have been created throughout art history – from Renaissance studios to private collections of the 18th and 19th centuries to modern museums. Today, paper no longer stands in the shadow of other media, but is recognised as an independent image carrier.
Whether sketchy or constructed, representational or abstract, political or erotic: in its simplicity, work on paper opens up a universe of its own. Based on this versatility, the exhibition PAPERY II presents a selection of this universe for the second time and provides insight into the different visual languages of fifteen artists.
What they have in common is not only working on paper, but also their origins in graffiti writing, calligraphy or wall painting. Graffiti crossed their biographies, shaping their style and lives.
In the group exhibition PAPERY II, RETRAMP Gallery presents originals on paper, created in recent years with charcoal, marker, pencil, ink, oil pastels, fineliner pen, watercolour, gouache, acrylic, spray paint, oil or mixed media.
